Camp Diary: Rookie Corner David Amerson

Each of the three Redskins rookie defensive backs will take turns writing a daily diary on To ask your question, tweet at them for next time.

Hey everybody, this is rookie cornerback David Amerson. Over the next three weeks, I'll provide you with a behind-the-scenes look at my first Redskins training camp, from my perspective.

So yesterday was my first day. Just being around your teammates and getting comfortable around them has been the key so far. They are my new teammates. Everything has been a great experience so far.

Coming in, just getting on the buses outside the hotel you've got fans snapping pictures with their cameras. I kind of feel like a Hollywood-type of celebrity.

My roommate for training camp is fellow rookie Jordan Reed. I have been roomates with him since minicamp and OTAs, so we are already familiar with each other. We have a good friendship that continutes to grow.

It's a good way to help us out, having another guy who is a rookie and going through the same things you are. We talk about football and sharing experiences about playing the positions that we do and that's a big help from a mental standpoint.

Jordan is also a very competitive guy. We really go at it when we play video games. We play 2K and we got the new NCAA, so we will see how that goes.

Right now, I'm up 2-1. Yes, we are keeping score, but pride bragging rights are on the line.

Another thing that stands out so far is the good food. We're eating well. You're eating four times a day. That's something I can definitely get used to.

Last night, we had lobster tail. You got a pasta station at every meal. We have chicken, salad--anything you want. It's crazy.

You get a midnight snack too, something like chicken wings or a bag of snacks. It's probably like the least downgraded meal of them all, but the other three meals a day are good.

So far, I'm trying to get a hold of the schedule to get regular sleep. Wednesday, we had meetings for about two or three hours. I got really filled up on football, but there's still a lot more to learn.

Afterward, I watched some of the plays from OTAs. I didn't just watch my plays but all the guys. It helps to watch other people who know how to play. I went to bed after that. On thing I couldn't leave behind when I came down here for training camp was my sneakers. I'm a big sneakers guys. I love shoes. I like to wear a different pair of shoes just about every other day. I guess it's a confidence thing.

The guy that I've really turned to for advice early on is D-Hall. Either him or Meriweather, if I had to pick some guys. Any questions I have, he can teach me how to play certain coverages or technique. It's definitively been good for me.

That's my first diary entry for camp, but if there's anything else you want to know, hit me up on Twitter (@DavidAmerson1) and I'll let you know.
