Injury Report Bare For Redskins-Eagles

Last time the Washington Redskins played the Philadelphia Eagles was in Week 16 of the 2012 season, with both teams weathering major injuries during the home stretch of the season, but projected in very different directions.

For the Eagles, a last place finish was assured in the NFC East, along with the prospects of major changes heading into 2013.

While some starters were too injured to play, others were benched in favor of giving backups an opportunity to show what they could do.

The Eagles injury report going into that Week 16 matchup included the following 11 players: quarterback Michael Vick (concussion), running backs LeSean McCoy (concussion), Chris Polk (toe), Stanley Havili (hamstring), receivers Jason Avant (hamstring), Riley Cooper (knee), Jeremy Maclin (back), tight end Brent Celek (concussion), safety Kurt Coleman (chest), cornerback Brandon Hughes (lung contusion), and guard Evan Mathis (ankle).

Of those listed, all but Polk and Havili were listed as probable.

For the Redskins, it was a distinctly different situation, as the team was riding an improbably five-game winning streak looking to close out the season with the first playoff appearance since 2007.

In order to do that, the Redskins were charged with once again beating the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys in consecutive weeks and hoping for some help from the division-leading New York Giants.

The Redskins injury report going into that Week 16 matchup included the following 10 players: quarterback Robert Griffin III (knee), receiver Pierre Garcon (foot), linebackers London Fletcher (ankle), Lorenzo Alexander (N/A), Rob Jackson (N/A), Ryan Kerrigan (ankle), offensive tackles Trent Williams (thigh), Tyler Polumbus (head), center Will Montgomery (knee), and defensive end Stephen Bowen (biceps).

Of those listed, all but Bowen and Polumbus were listed as probable.

At the end of any regular season, a number of players are receiving treatment for injuries, which lands them on the injury report.

The beauty of a successful preseason is that the injury report is limited going into Week 1 of the regular season.

Sure, the Redskins have still lost contributors like Phillip Thomas, Keenan Robinson and Richard Crawford for the season, but the starting lineups on both sides of the ball have the potential to stay intact, starting tonight.

With the Redskins going into tonight's matchup, the injury report includes only three names: quarterback Kirk Cousins (foot), nose tackle Barry Cofield (hand) and safety Brandon Meriweather (groin).

Of these three, only Meriweather is listed as questionable, with both others practicing fully and listed as probable.

Notable omissions from the list are quarterback Robert Griffin III and offensive tackle Trent Williams, who are not receiving treatment for their respective injuries and are therefore not listed.

For the Eagles going into tonight's matchup, the injury report includes only one player: offensive tackle Dennis Kelly, who missed the preseason with back surgery.

Tonight's game is the first of a 17-week grind for NFL players, and it is encouraging to see the Redskins enter with a relatively clean bill of health.

Anything can happen during the heat of the battle, but both sides are expected to be full strength when kickoff arrives at 7:10 p.m.
