Redskins, Ernst & Young Donate $15,000 to Children's Hospital

Sean Taylor was scheduled to visit Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., with teammates on the day he passed away.

The late Redskins safety was always passionate about helping children in the community.

On Tuesday, nearly four months after Taylor's tragic death, the Redskins honored Taylor with a special visit to Children's National Medical Center and a $15,000 donation to the hospital's family library.

The Redskins Charitable Foundation and Ernst & Young made the donation through the Redskins Read "Touchdown for Literacy" program.

Santana Moss, one of Taylor's closest friends, was on hand for the check presentation and to read to patients in the hospital's main atrium.

Moss was joined by Redskins teammates Rocky McIntosh, Anthony Montgomery, Chris Wilson and Lorenzo Alexander at the event.

The donation in Taylor's name will be used to purchase thousands of books during the next five years and a new book cart to deliver books to patients' rooms. Each book purchased with the donation will bear a memorial bookplate in Taylor's name.

In addition, the Redskins Charitable Foundation donated 16,000 Redskins Read activity books to Children's National Medical Center in March.

The activity books will be distributed in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area in patient admission packets, pediatrician's offices, outpatient clinics, family waiting areas and the library at the hospital.

Redskins Read, a signature program of the Redskins Charitable Foundation, promotes literacy and encourages children through the region to visit local public and school libraries.

The Redskins Charitable Foundation, with the support of the Verizon Foundation, produces and distributes 170,000 Redskins Read activity books free of charge to elementary schools, public libraries, literacy centers and nonprofit organizations.

The Redskins Read program provides grants for schools to purchase library books and sends out Redskins players to read to children during the year.
