The Redskins completed the re-signing of linebacker Antonio Pierce, the team announced on Thursday. Pierce, who entered the off-season as a restricted free agent but chose not to sign elsewhere, is regarded as a steady veteran and standout special teams contributor.

The 6-1, 240 pounder recently completed his third season with the Redskins. He has started 10 games and has appeared in 40 during his time in Washington, recording 86 tackles (65 solo), one sack, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.

Pierce originally signed with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent in 2001. As a rookie, he ended up starting eight games at outside linebacker and posted 64 tackles (48 solo), an interception, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.

Pierce has seen limited action at linebacker the last two seasons--starting two games in 2001--but has emerged as a solid special teams player, logging 30 special teams tackles during his career.

Pierce, a University of Arizona standout, is part of a linebacker corps that includes starters LaVar Arrington and Marcus Washington.
