Redskins Sign D-Linemen Cofield, Bowen

The Redskins have signed free agent defensive linemen Barry Cofield and Stephen Bowen, the team has announced.

In the process of signing Cofield and Bowen, the Redskins raided their NFC East counterparts. Cofield previously played for the New York Giants and Bowen previously played for the Dallas Cowboys.

Cofield  has played in 79 games with 78 starts over the last five seasons with the Giants. In his career, Cofield has registered 211 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 11 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

In 2010, Cofield totaled 54 tackles, four sacks, four passes defensed, and a forced fumble while starting 16 games.

Cofield was drafted by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft and he has spent his entire career with the club.

Cofield played college football at Northwestern. He is a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

Bowen spent his previous five NFL seasons with the Cowboys after joining the team as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2006.

He has played in 63 career games, with 11 starts, and recorded 44 tackles, 5.5 sacks, three passes defended and one forced fumble.

Last season, Bowen played in 16 games, with nine starts, and registered 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one pass defended.

Bowen played college football at Hofstra. He is a native of Dix, N.Y.
