Redskins Sign Mapu, Release Mathis

The Washington Redskins announced May 15 that they have signed undrafted free agent defensive lineman Jonathan "J.T." Mapu.

In addition, the team released WR/KR Jerome Mathis.

Mapu (6-4, 290), played four years at the University of Tennessee and tallied 65 tackles (32 solo), three sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He was invited to participate on a try-out basis at Redskins mini-camp on May 2-4.

Mapu will wear jersey number 75.

Mathis originally signed with the Redskins on April 4, 2008.
