Redskins Sign O-Lineman Polumbus

The Redskins have signed offensive lineman Tyler Polumbus, the team announced on Wednesday.

In addition, the Redskins have signed tight end Fendi Onobun and cornerback Brandyn Thompson to the practice squad.

Polumbus, 6-8 and 300 pounds, was originally signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 28, 2008. He joined the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 31, 2010 and played there until he was released on Oct. 25, 2011.

He has appeared in 51 games, with 15 starts, during his career.

This year in Seattle, Polumbus appeared in five games. In 2010, he played in 14 games with seven starts for the Seahawks, ending the season as the starting left guard.

During his two years with the Broncos, Polumbus played in 31 of a possible 32 games. In 2009, he played in 15 games, starting at right tackle in eight of the Broncos last nine games.

As a rookie in 2008, playing for current Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan, he appeared in all 16 games. He was one of three undrafted rookie free agents to make the team's opening day roster and one of five rookies to see time in every game for the Broncos.

Polumbus, 26, played college football at Colorado. He appeared in 43 games with 28 starts. As a senior, he started in 13 games and earned second-team All-Big 12 Conference honors after allowing one sack.

Polumbus is a native of Denver.

Onobun, 6-6 and 249 pounds, is in his second NFL season. He was a sixth-round draft pick (170th overall) by the St. Louis Rams the 2010 NFL Draft.

He has played in three career games, catching two passes for 15 yards.

Onobun played one season of college football, appearing in 11 games and catching two passes for 33 yards as a fifth-year senior at Houston in 2009.

From 2005-09, Onobun played in 81 games as a member of the men's basketball team at Arizona, where he scored 143 points and collected 95 rebounds in four seasons. He served as a team captain for the 2009 team that qualified for the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Onobun is a native of Houston.

Thompson, a 2011 seventh-round draft choice by the Redskins, has alternated between roster and practice squad in his rookie season.
