The Washington Redskins are taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium to finish out playing their NFC South opponents. Check out a running list of the highlights from the game.
Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick marched down the field on the first drive and threatened a score in the red zone. Josh Norman had other plans, and picked off a pass at the goal line, giving the offense the ball on the 32-yard line after his interception return.
The Redskins drew first blood at the end of the first quarter when Dustin Hopkins put a 43-yard field goal through the uprights, making it 3-0 Washington.
With a chance to tie the game, the Buccaneers missed a field goal, keeping it 3-0 Redskins. Tampa struggled early on in the red zone.
After a red zone trip was ruined by a Matt Ioannidis sack, the Buccaneers got their first points of the day on a 33-yard Chandler Catanzaro field goal to knot it up at 3-3.
The Redskins then drove down the field in a two-minute drill to set Dustin Hopkins up for a 43-yard field goal to make it 6-3 Redskins going into the half.
A scoreless third quarter kept it 6-3 heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation. The Redskins offense would start off the fourth quarter with a bang, as quarterback Alex Smith bought time in the pocket on third down and found receiver Josh Doctson in the back of the end zone for a touchdown. The score gave the Redskins a 13-3 lead, and was Doctson's second touchdown catch in as many weeks.
Moments later, the Redskins defense got the ball right back, as cornerback Greg Stroman recorded the first interception of his career and set up Alex Smith and company with great field position.
Kicker Dustin Hopkins then converted his third field goal of the afternoon, pushing Washington's lead to 16-3 in the fourth quarter.
As the Buccaneers offense began to drive down the field on the following possession, the Redskins defense once again come up big. Running back Jacquizz Rodgers made the catch and turned up field, but linebacker Ryan Anderson was there to punch the ball out and force a fumble. Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a touchback.
With the Buccaneers in a goal-to-go situation late in the fourth quarter, linebacker Preston Smith got to Fitzpatrick for a sack while linebacker Kerrigan stripped the ball loose and recovered the fumble for the Redskins fourth takeaway of the contest. The offense then ran down the clock, securing a 16-3 win.
