WRCAA Avon Walk For Breast Cancer

The Washington Redskins Cheerleaders Alumni Association (WRCAA) raised $32,086.50 as Team WRCAA walked 39.6 miles in the Washington, DC 2014 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Representing the WRCAA on this 9-member team were: Terri Lamb (79-83), Debbie Ray (74-82), Lynn Sharkey (Team Captain) (82-83) and Barbara Strittmatter (84-85). Team WRCAA walked in support of fellow alum and breast cancer survivor Melanie Nocera (96,98). Melanie's journey began 2 years ago when she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, causing her to endure 22 weeks of chemotherapy, double mastectomy and numerous surgeries. Unfortunately, Melanie had a re-occurrence as the cancer spread to her liver, lung and pelvic bone, now stage 4. Melanie continues to fight this disease while being a loving wife to husband Jimmy and Mother to their two young children, Anthony, 6 and Elon, 3.

Since 1984 the WRCAA has been proudly supporting local and national charities while remaining the most active professional cheerleader alumni organization in the NFL.  Determined to make a difference, Team WRCAA held numerous fundraisers in the DC Metropolitan area where support from fellow alum, friends and family helped the TeamachievePlatinumfundraising status and 9thhighest team fundraisers overall.   For Melanie and all others battling cancer Team WRCAA walked united with the motto "Cheers to a cure!".
