Former Redskin Derrick Dockery Joins Paul Ryan's Staff

Derrick Dockery has some experience in Washington, D.C.

He spent two stints with the Redskins (2003-06, 2009-10) in his 10-year NFL career, and then earned an MBA from George Washington University.

That probably factored into Speaker Paul Ryan's consideration before he announced that Dockery, 35, would help him build coalitions with state and local government and the business community, according to Politico.

Dockery was actually an intern on Ryan's budget committee in 2012, his first foray into Capitol Hill. This year he also worked for Rep. Jason Chaffetz, of Utah, building a resume that Ryan believed was strong enough to add him to his team last month.

In his six years with the Redskins, Dockery played in 85 games and started 79 at guard. He was present at this past year's alumni homecoming game and once upon a time helped co-host the show “Redskins Generation.”
