The Washington Redskins announced the signings of eight college free agents on Thursday. This is, understandably, not as exciting as hearing their names called during draft weekend by the Commissioner or another celebrity at the podium.
There is no pomp and circumstance and no live shot of them next to their family on the phone with a head coach. It is, by all accounts, unremarkable, mostly because it's not a television spectacle. But that shouldn't prevent them from celebrating the chance to become a professional football player.
The undrafted players that signed with the Redskins still managed to enjoy the process, even if it was delayed by a day longer than expected. Before the team officially announced their statuses, many of them with social media accounts tweeted variations of their excitement.
Despite not getting red carpet treatment or T.V. time, here's how they shared the start of their next chapter.
Defensive lineman Tyler Catalina provides the standard signing photo. At home, wearing his college gear, smile on, ready to put ink to paper.
Wide receiver Zach Pascal has a closer connection. He's wearing a Redskins shirt already because, well, he was already a fan, having grown up in Upper Marlboro, Md. Once he signed, he went to grab his shirt and gave a nice flex along with an #HTTR hashtag.
Defensive lineman Ondre Pipkins opted for a simple "HTTR," which is cryptic enough to not entirely give away his new job.
Wide receiver James Quick decided to take his graphic design talents to Instagram, where presumably one of his friends mocked up a Redskins logo onto an action shot. "I want to thank the Washington Redskins for giving me the opportunity to continue to follow my dreams and for opening a new chapter in my life. #forevertrending"
Safety Fish Smithson is new to Twitter, so his first tweet was his signing announcement. Not a bad way to start your social media presence.
Wide receiver Levern Jacobs didn't promote himself personally – he just retweeted some friends, and then the University of Maryland congratulating him. All of which is just to show that when you're not drafted, there are many routes you can take to announce the next step of your career.
