Meet New Redskins Tight End D.J. Williams: Renaissance Man

For more from the team, including exclusive videos, photos and written content, be sure to “like” the Redskins’ Official Facebook page.

D.J. Williams, the Redskins' latest addition at tight end, is the rare football player that could have ten different careers if he so chose to do.

After playing collegiately at Arkansas, where he became one of the most prolific pass catchers in school history, he was drafted  by  the Packers in 2011. He later moved on to have short stints with the Jaguars, Patriots and Buccaneers.

Somewhere between growing up and having free time as an NFL player though, Williams developed some other skills (well, a lot of them), which allowed his distinct, fun-loving, occasionally corny, personality to come out.

A simple scan through his Instagram will give you this impression.

His most notable attribute is (was?) his current (former?) job as a co-host for the KARK Little Rock morning show, which hired him back in January of this year.

"I'm very excited about giving people the motivation to get up at 5 in the morning," Williams said in statement upon his hiring. "It'll be a very exciting show with a very excited team who is happy to show up to work each day – even if it does mean waking up at 3 o'clock in the morning!"

Williams played the role of a roving reporter, offering special segments that touched on football, celebrity interviews and, most recently, a series where he is dared to try a challenging skill, like icing a cupcake for example. Mostly, he seems to enjoy dressing up, dancing and singing when he's on the air. And a few pranks.

His other gifts extend from that strain, and he's keen on giving people a taste of his karaoke and singing skills in the front seat of his car on the way home from work. These often turn into 10-second skits as he tries to keep his eyes on the road.

I particularly enjoyed his turn jamming to Irene Cara's "Flashdance."

As if to live up to his name, Williams has also dabbled in becoming a DJ. While he was with the Packers, he began a series on Fridays with mashup mixtapes. His first video requires some patience but eventually demonstrates his beat remixing vision with Miley Cyrus's "Party In The USA."

He's also picked up playing the piano pretty well, which helps with chord progressions and syncing up different songs (think Anna Kendrick in “Pitch Perfect”).

And then there is the artwork, which Williams seems to have picked up last December, posting a few time-lapse videos of his acrylic landscapes. I would imagine he had less time once the morning show kicked in.

Oh, there's also the fashion, which Arkansas Life Magazine recently discovered and profiled.

"It's about you doing you and not worrying about the opinion of others. As long as it makes you happy and doesn't offend others I wear it!!!!!" Williams captioned.

All of which is to say he is a pretty decent follow on social media. I'm sure there will be some more dance-offs, sing-offs, paint-offs, etc. with his new teammates in the near future.
