Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 7/26

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Friday, July 26, 2013.

--During Thursday's practice, rookie defensive backs David Amerson and Bacarri Rambo were seen in with the first team defense.

--The two appear to relish the opportunity, but according to safety Brandon Meriweather, communication will be the key to them staying in their current sports on the depth chart.

--Despite the grind of an NFL training camp, Meriweather is just happy to be back playing football again.

--In other secondary news, cornerback Josh Wilson was placed on the PUP list before the first practice, but did not spend very much time there.

--In case you missed anything during the opening day of camp, here are some highlights and notes from the afternoon practice.  Other writers gave their thoughts here,  here and here.

--Coming off their first division crown since 1999, one writer says the Redskins are ready to become a consistent contender.

--In his first practice since his knee injury, quarterback Robert Griffin III was slowly eased into team drills. Full details on his practice progression here.

--Griffin III added that in a big-game situation, he isn’t afraid to fight for the extra yards.

--Redskins Nation set a first day attendance record on the opening day of camp; here is what some fans had to say about their love for the Burgundy and Gold.

--Going into the last year of his contract, many wonder when linebacker Brian Orakpo will sign an extension, but the Texas alum does not appear to be worried.

--Wide receiver Devery Henderson was picked up late in the offseason, and although he must catch up learning the playbook, he’s excited for his opportunity

--Going into his 16th NFL training camp, team captain London Fletcher is still feeling strong and is not worried about his streak of consecutive starts.

--Despite some reports that the Redskins were interested in free agent tackle Eric Winston, another source is reporting that there were no serious conversations between the two parties.

--After news broke earlier this week that defensive end Adam Carriker would need surgery on a quadriceps tendon, and head coach Mike Shanahan said yesterday that Carriker would need four to five months to recover. Despite this being his third surgery on the injury, Carriker says he’s excited for the rehab process.

--With Carriker likely being sidelined for the majority of the upcoming season, defensive end Jarvis Jenkins will likely be asked to play a larger role on the defensive line.

--Many NFL players grow up dreaming to play for their hometown team and fortunately for some Redskins that dream is being lived out.

--Here are some of the player's first impressions on the city of Richmond and start of training camp.

--To no surprise, Robert Griffin III drew the attention of the thousands of fan in attendance at yesterday's practice, and drew cheers on his every move, including his playful fumble recovery.

--Some watching the morning walkthrough may have noticed that Griffin III unintentionally took his only snap without his knee brace. But much to the relief of the team and it's fans, the second-year signal-caller will have the brace at all times in practice

--In order for Griffin III to remain healthy, one writer asserts that coach and quarterback must build trust.

--Like Robert Griffin III, tight end Fred Davis is healthy coming off a torn Achilles tendon, but will also be eased into training camp practice.

--In a city that lacks a major professional sports team, Richmond, Va is feeling some major impacts from the Redskins' presence. One writer delves into the phenomenon.

--With the majority of NFL training camps open, or getting started, here are the biggest questions facing each team in the NFC East.

--In 2012, the Redskins boasted one of the best offenses in the NFL, and coming into 2013, wide receiver Pierre Garcon says the offense could be one of the best ever.

--One local writer analyzes if the team's expectations are now too high.

--With a number of new additions, and players returning from injury, one writer previews what the Redskins defense could look like in 2013

--Earlier this week, Redskins legend Darrell Green shared his thoughts on the Redskins name change debate, but says his words were misconstrued and he clarifies his comments here.

--Another DMV-area Native American spoke out on the name change.
