91-Year-Old Fan Has Good Feeling About Sunday's Game

We all remember Melba Jacobson, a huge Redskins fan who has spent her last two birthdays — her 90th and her 91st — with her favorite team at training camp at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond, Va.

It was 1941 when Jacobson, a Silver Spring, Md., resident, first fell in love with the burgundy and gold. The team's quarterback back then? None other than the great Slingin' Sammy Baugh.

"He was great," Jacobson told Larry Michael, the Voice of the Redskins, during camp last August. "I haven't seen another one like him."

But now that she has personal connections with the team — several players and Redskins owner Dan Snyder have made it a point to come say hello and take a picture with her when she comes to visit training camp the past two years — Jacobson can't help but point out the work being done by this current Redskins squad, which won the NFC East Division this season.

WUSA9 in Washington, D.C., recently caught up with Jacobson and her family. And, just like Baugh in her early years following the team, Jacobson is impressed by the work being done under center by current Redskins quarterback, Kirk Cousins.

Jacobson, of course, has met Cousins, telling WUSA9 that "he's just a sweet guy." As she looked through pictures of her Redskins trips, her daughter, Sharon Ramboz, told Jacobson it looked like she was giving advice to Cousins in one particular shot.

"He took it," Jacobson said of Cousins, who on Thursday was named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month for December/January. "Look what he's doing."

Jacobson cherishes these Redskins relationships.

"She seems to feel like they're her family, you know? And Dan Snyder has really been so good to her about making that feeling come about," Ramboz said.

In fact, Snyder has ensured that Jacobson be in attendance at the last two Redskins-Cowboys games at FedExField.

As for the fate of this current Redskins team, Jacobson says she has a good feeling about its 2015 NFC Wild Card Round matchup against the Green Bay Packers Sunday at FedExField.

"If they can play anything like they did last week, they're gonna win," she said. "...I've always been a great fan, but I'm more excited now about the games and ... 'cause I know 'em."
