Chris Baker Hosts Successful Foundation Launch Party

Chris Baker wants you to know that it's "cool to be smart."

That's the primary theme to The Chris Baker 92 Foundation, which had its launch party Tuesday night at Del Frisco's Grille in Washington, D.C., where a variety of guests and teammates attended to show their support.

For the last couple years, Baker's foundation has already been active, both in the D.C. metro area and in the Windsor, Conn., area near to his home, providing an array of sports camps and mentorship programs for all ages of students.

The main tenant of his foundation is creating literacy programs, specifically for elementary students.

"It's my job, my opportunity, it's my obligation to let these kids know that being smart is a good thing and going to school and doing work is something you should do, something that you have to do in order to be successful," Baker told ABC-7 on Monday. "So we have to make this as cool as possible and let these kids learn as much as possible."

For students in high school, Baker has made an effort to provide tutoring services as many prepare to take the SAT and advance to college. He's put importance on starting this hard work during students' freshman years, making sure athletes have taken the core classes they need for NCAA regulations so they don't run into situations like his, having to catch up on grades in the latter half of his high school career.

"I buckled down, got a tutor, did the extra work that I had to do to make sure that I was successful," Baker said.

He's planning to make many more kids, successful, too.
