Final Training Camp 2012 Practice Notes

The Redskins took the practice field for the final time in front of their fans this afternoon, closing out the final training camp practice at Redskins Park for the forseeable future.

The next time training camp opens, it will be in Richmond, at a yet undisclosed location.

The team focused on position drills early in practice, which featured both offensive guard Chris Chester and running back Tim Hightower. Neither player practiced fully in full-team drills, but made progress by appearing in positional work.

Full team drills focused on drives beginning at various points on the field, including the 5-, 20-, and 50-yard lines.  All three quarterbacks (Robert Griffin III, Rex Grossman and Kirk Cousins) scored from the 5-yard line, with Grossman and Cousins passing, and Griffin III running it in.

Cousins continued his training camp aerial attack today, hitting Aldrick Robinson and running back Tristan Davis for long receptions.  Robinson's resulted in a 70-yard touchdown catch and run, where he simply outran the defenders in the secondary.

It wasn't all offense today, as safety Madieu Williams knocked Garçon out of bounds at the 1-yard line late in practice.  The defense rallied around captain London Fletcher, and stone-walled Griffin III and Co. on the next play.

Special teams also got some work this afternoon, as punt returners Brandon Banks, Aldrick Robinson and Richard Crawford received live punts from Sav Rocca.  Despite tricky wind conditions, Rocca still boomed a handful of punts upwards of 60 yards through the air, drawing the praise of defensive coordinator Danny Smith.

Practice ended with the top offense squaring off against the top defense for training camp pride.  As time expired on practice, Griffin III found Santana Moss slicing across the middle of the field and hit him in stride.

Moss streaked past defenders for a training camp-ending touchdown.

Thanks to all of the Redskins fans that came out to Training Camp 2012.  We hope to see each of you--and a few new faces--next year in Richmond, Va.  Hail to the fans.
