Reading is important, but not just during the school year.

The Redskins Read Program, which had a highly successful campaign last year – more than 11,000 students tracked more than 5 million minutes during the summer months – is now amping up once again.

Just as players are getting ready to hit the field, so should students be ready to open up their books to participate in this year's Redskins Read Across Richmond Summer Reading Program.

The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation has partnered with Chesterfield County Public Schools and students are encouraged to track the number of minutes they read over the summer. The school with the highest participation will win the grand prize of hosting a Redskins Reading Rally to kick off the school year.

As seen above, Winterpock Elementary took home the crown as 2014 champions. Make sure your school is next!

Signing up is easy!

  1. Register for the summer reading program right here.
  1. Start reading.
  1. Track the number of minutes read on paper or online (10 minutes of reading=1 yard, 100 yards=Touchdown!)
  1. At the end of the summer, students should have a parent or guardian sign their log forms and turn it into their 2015-2016 classroom teacher by Friday, Sept. 11.
  1. Teachers will submit all records to the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation.

Happy reading!
