LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation announced today that J.E.B. Stuart High School (Fairfax County Public Schools) head football coach, Clarence Martin, has been named the Redskins High School Coach of the Week presented by Inova Sports Medicine for the week of Sept. 11.

Coach Martin is entering his second season as head football coach at J.E.B. Stuart, although his coaching career extends beyond 11 years. In their last matchup, the Raiders improved to 1-1 after defeating Park View – Sterling by a score of 57-37.

Director of Student Activities, Brian Garvey, credits the program's newfound success on and off the field to Martin's dedication to the game, along with his ability to relate to his student-athletes. "He took over a program that wasn't very successful at all," said Garvey. "Right after being hired, he immediately got to work on building relationships with the kids and they grew to really respect him and the rest of his coaching staff. Our team GPA has risen and program participation exploded." Garvey noted that program participation increased from 40 student-athletes to 100 student-athletes since Martin took over the program in 2016.

On the field, Coach Martin emphasizes safety by working closely with the school's athletic trainers. He is also a certified instructor with USA Football and Heads Up Tackling.

Garvey lists character, leadership and support as some of Coach Martin's greatest qualities. "He has created a vibe here," said Garvey. "The kids recently came up with the hashtag #NewStu to explain the change in mindset here. The culture used to be we can't win because of the demographics or our past, but now they're seeing the change and it's because of Coach Martin."
