9/29: Redskins Make Roster Moves

The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent cornerback Richard Crawford and free agent safety Jamarca Sanford. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. In addition, the team signed tackle Terren Jones to its practice squad.

Crawford (5-11, 192) was originally drafted by the Redskins in the seventh round (213th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. He appeared in 10 games for the Redskins in 2012, recording an interception and a fumble recovery and adding eight punt returns for 156 yards (19.5 avg.).

Crawford spent the 2013 season on the Redskins' Reserve/Injured list. He was waived on Aug. 29, 2014, before signing to the team's practice squad two days later. He was released from the practice squad on Sept. 9.

Crawford played collegiately at SMU from 2010-11 after transferring from Saddleback (Calif.) College. He started 26 of the 27 games in which he played at SMU, posting 106 tackles (73 solo), six interceptions, 21 passes defensed and two forced fumbles.

Crawford, 24, attended El Camino (Calif.) H.S., where he lettered in both football and track and field. He was born on Aug. 1, 1990.

Sanford (5-10, 200) was originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round (231st overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent his first five NFL seasons with the Vikings before being released by the team on Aug. 8, 2014. For his career, Sanford has appeared in 70 games with 44 starts, compiling 232 tackles (168 solo), 11 passes defensed, eight forced fumbles, five fumbles recovered, two interceptions and a sack.

Sanford played collegiately at Ole Miss, starting all 44 of the games in which he appeared from 2004-08. At the end of his eligibility in 2008, his 287 tackles (178 solo) were the most of any active player in the Southeastern Conference.

Sanford, 29, attended South Panola H.S. in Batesville, Miss., where he helped lead his team to a 15-0 mark and the Class 5A state title as a senior. He was born on Aug. 27, 1985.

Jones (6-7, 341) originally signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a college free agent on April 29, 2013. He spent the first 12 weeks of the 2013 season on the Falcons' practice squad before signing to the team's active roster on Nov. 26, 2013. He was waived by the Falcons on Aug. 30, 2014, before signing to their practice squad a day later and eventually being released on Sept. 23, 2014.

From 2009-12, Jones played collegiately at Alabama State, where he was a three-time All-SWAC performer and an AFCA All-American.

Jones, 22, attended Choctawhatchee H.S. in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He was born on Nov. 19, 1991.
