Pro Football Focus Ranks Trent Williams As Best Offensive Tackle This Season

In some of Friday's least surprising news, Pro Football Focus tweeted their top-graded offensive tackles and Trent Williams was number one.

Williams, who was ranked No. 45 among the NFL's Top 100 players during the offseason, has continued his strong play this season protecting the blind side of Kirk Cousins at left tackle. But it's not just pass protection that Williams excels in. His incredible speed for a guy of his size was on full display as he paved the way for Chris Thompson![](/team/roster/chris-thompson/2fdd4cd6-43bf-4c34-9ac7-bc58faf8a8ef/ "Chris Thompson")'s game-winning 25-yard touchdown run against Philadelphia this past Sunday.

"I love it, man," Williams said with a smile about the play, in which he erased Eagles defensive back Jalen Mills. "I love the change up, obviously it beats blocking a 280 [defensive] end."

Perhaps we should've seen this grade coming for Williams, though. Earlier this week Broncos linebacker Von Miller called Williams the toughest offensive tackle he’s ever faced. Miller, who was last year's Super Bowl MVP and is tied for the league lead in sacks this season with 13.5, knows a thing or two about offensive tackles.

And while Pro Football Focus looks at the performance of a player on each play via film, Miller said the way Williams carries himself is the most impressive part about his game.

"What separates him is that he's also the most mentally tough guy I've ever seen," Miller wrote in an article for The Player's Tribune. "He has that swag about him that makes him almost more like a defensive player. He loves talking to you."

While Williams is mostly soft spoken in the locker room with the media, he's obviously a different animal come game time. The Redskins aren't expecting anything different come Monday night in a pivotal Week 15 matchup with the Panthers.
