July Recipe Of The Month -  Bourbon BBQ Sauce


  • 1 pint brown sugar
  • 1 pint bourbon
  • 1 can tomato juice (46 oz.)
  • 1 cup diced bell peppers (red, green, yellow, orange or any combination of each)
  • 1 cup diced onions
  • 1 jar tamarind paste (8oz)
  • 1 jar Pickapeppa Hot Sauce (5oz)
  • 3-4 strips of cooked bacon
  • Salt & pepper to taste


  • Reduce sugar and bourbon until syrup
  • Reduce tomato juice separately until sauce consistency (similar to ketchup)
  • While liquids are reducing, sauté peppers and onions until nice caramelization forms and set aside
  • Combine syrup, reduced tomato, onions, peppers, and bacon and simmer on low for 10 minutes
  • Add tamarind, Pickapeppa, and simmer for 5 another minutes
  • Season with salt & pepper and strain through wire strainer
  • Serve with favorite BBQ chicken, pork or beef dish.
