2015 Season In Review: Offensive Highlights

Take a look back at the top offensive storylines from the 2015 Washington Redskins regular season, courtesy of Redskins Public Relations.


• The Redskins exceeded 5,000 yards for the 11th straight season, adding to the longest streak in team history.

• The Redskins set a team record for completion percentage in a season (69.5), surpassing the previous mark of 66.5 set in 2014. The Redskins led the NFL in team completion percentage in a season for the 11th time in team history and the first time since 1970.

• The Redskins set a team record for completions, finishing the season with 386 to surpass the previous record of 364 set in 2014.

• The Redskins finished the season with a team passer rating of 102.0, one-tenth of a point shy of the team record of 102.1, set in 2012.

• Redskins passers finished the 2015 season with an interception percentage of 2.0 percent, the third-lowest in team history.

• A year after allowing 58 sacks, the Redskins held opponents to 27 sacks in 2015. The 31-sack turnaround was the largest in team history since the NFL began recognizing sacks as an official statistic in 1982, surpassing the 30-sack decrease between the 1998-99 seasons.

• The Redskins had three different players (Pierre Garçon, DeSean Jackson and Jordan Reed) record streaks of three consecutive games with a receiving touchdown in a single season for the first time since 1991 (Art Monk, Terry Orr and Ricky Sanders).

• In Week 1, the Redskins recorded 161 rushing yards on 37 attempts. Both, at the time, were the second-highest totals of the Jay Gruden era (42 carries for 191 yards vs. Jacksonville on Sept. 14, 2014).

• In Week 2, a week after rushing for 161 yards against the Dolphins, the Redskins gained 182 rushing yards against the St. Louis Rams, marking only the third time since 1950 that the Redskins have opened a season with consecutive 150-yard rushing games (1952 and 2012).

• The consecutive 150-yard rushing games were the team's first since Weeks 10-11 of the 2013 season.

• The Redskins held the ball for 37:44 against St. Louis one week after recording 37:54 of possession against the Dolphins in the season opener. In doing so, the Redskins held the ball for 37 minutes or more in consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 2-3 of the 1992 season.

• Between Matt Jones and Alfred Morris in Week 2, the Redskins had two players record at least 10 rushing attempts in a game for the first time since Dec. 1, 2013 vs. the New York Giants.

• With the back-to-back 100-yard rushing games by Morris and Jones in Weeks 1 and 2, the Redskins had two different players record 100-yard rushing efforts in consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 6-7 of the 2012 season (Robert Griffin III and Morris).

• Jones' 39-yard run and Morris' 35-yard rush on the Redskins' second drive in Week 2 marked the first time since the turn of the century that the team recorded two rushes of 35 yards or more on a single drive. The last time the Redskins recorded two rushes of 35 yards or more in a single game also came against the Rams (Dec. 4, 2005).

• In Week 3 at the New York Giants, the Redskins recorded their first two-point conversion since Nov. 17, 2013 at Philadelphia, a game in which the Redskins recorded two successful two-point conversions.

• In Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Redskins' first three scoring drives lasted 13, 10 and 10 plays, respectively. Washington's nine-play scoring drive in the third quarter snapped a streak of eight consecutive scoring drives of 10 plays or more. Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the most recent NFL team to have eight consecutive scoring drives last 10 plays or more was the 2007 Indianapolis Colts (a streak of nine such drives).

• The Redskins rushed for 127 yards on 32 carries in the game. Thus, the Redskins eclipsed 125 rushing yards three times in a four-game span for the first time since Weeks 10-13 of the 2013 season.

• The Redskins recorded a 41:08-18:52 advantage in time of possession in Week 4. The Redskins' 41:08 time of possession was the longest by the team in a game in records available dating back to 1991, surpassing the 41:04 recorded in an overtime contest vs. the New York Giants on Nov. 23, 1997.

• In Week 6 at the New York Jets, the Redskins posted a positive turnover margin for a third consecutive game for the first time since doing so in four straight contests across Weeks 14-17 of the 2012 season.

• In Week 7, the Redskins recorded a season-high 27 first downs, the team's most since Sept. 14, 2014 vs. Jacksonville (32).

• From Weeks 3-9, the Redskins allowed one sack or fewer in six consecutive games in a single season since a seven-game streak across Weeks 4-11 of the 1996 season.

• In Week 10 vs. the New Orleans Saints, the Redskins gained 510 offensive yards on 59 plays, the team's highest yardage total since a 559-yard effort against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 10, 1991.

• In the game, the Redskins averaged 8.6 yards per play. The last time the Redskins averaged at least eight yards per play in a single game was Sept. 29, 1996 against the New York Jets (8.3).

• Against New Orleans, the Redskins eclipsed the 500-yard mark on offense for the first time since posting 511 yards of offense at Philadelphia in Week 3 of the 2014 season.

• The Redskins gained 209 rushing yards in the game, eclipsing the 200-yard mark for the first time since Nov. 3, 2013 vs. San Diego (209 yards, including overtime).

• The Redskins scored on eight of their 10 drives against the Saints. From the second quarter to the fourth quarter, the Redskins scored on six consecutive drives. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, prior to Week 10, the last time the Redskins had scored on six consecutive drives in a single game was on Dec. 30, 2001, a game also played against the New Orleans Saints.

• The Redskins opened the scoring in Week 10 with a 10-play, 96-yard touchdown drive. The scoring drive was the Redskins' longest since a 97-yard drive on Dec. 3, 2000 vs. the New York Giants.

• The Redskins gained 394 net yards against the Saints in the first half, the team's highest total since a 419-yard first half against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXII on Jan. 31, 1988.

• The Redskins' 394 net yards in the first half vs. New Orleans were more than the team's full-game total in seven of its prior eight games.

• The Redskins' 272 net passing yards in the first half against the Saints were their highest total in records available dating back to 1991. The Redskins also rushed for 122 yards in the first half, their most since a 132-yard first half against St. Louis earlier in the season.

• The Redskins did not turn the ball over against New Orleans, marking Washington's first game without a turnover since Week 5 of the 2014 season vs. Seattle.

• With the touchdown passes to Jamison Crowder and Matt Jones in Week 10, the Redskins had two rookies record a touchdown reception in a single game for the first time since Nov. 15, 2010 (Darrel Young and Keiland Williams vs. Philadelphia).

• In Weeks 10 and 11, the Redskins recorded a 50-yard touchdown pass in consecutive games for the first time since a three-game stretch in Weeks 5-7 of the 2014 season (Matt Jones vs. NO, DeSean Jackson at CAR).

• In Week 11 at Carolina, with DeSean Jackson's 56-yard touchdown reception and Andre Roberts' 99-yard return touchdown, the Redskins recorded two total touchdowns of 50 or more yards in a single game for the first time since exactly three years earlier (Nov. 22, 2012) at Dallas.

• In Week 12 vs. the New York Giants, the Redskins posted multiple receptions of 45 yards or more in a single game for the first time since Week 17 vs. Dallas of the 2013 season.

• In Week 14 at Chicago, the Redskins opened the game with a 15-play, 80-yard scoring drive, culminating in a one-yard touchdown plunge by running back Alfred Morris. The 15-play drive was the Redskins' longest opening drive of the season.

• The 15-play drive was the Redskins' longest opening drive since a 16-play drive vs. San Diego on Nov. 3, 2013.

• The Redskins gained seven first downs on their opening drive alone at Chicago. In their previous 12 games, the Redskins had only gained seven or more first downs in the entire first quarter once (eight vs. New Orleans).

• Washington's 11 first-quarter first downs against the Bears were the most by the team in an opening quarter in records available dating back to 1991.

• The Redskins scored a touchdown on both their opening drive of the game and their opening drive of the second half in Chicago, marking the first time the team had scored an opening-drive touchdown in both halves since Nov. 29, 2009 at Philadelphia.

• The Redskins gained a season-high 10 rushing first downs against the Bears, the team's most since Week 2 of the 2014 season vs. Jacksonville (12).

• In Weeks 14-15 against Chicago and Buffalo, the Redskins scored touchdowns on opening drives in consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 12-13 of the 2011 season.

• Against Buffalo, the Redskins opened the game with touchdowns on their first three drives of a game for the first time since Sept. 19, 1999 in a 50-21 win at the New York Giants, a span of 268 regular season games.

• The Redskins converted 7-of-11 third downs (63.6 percent) against the Bills, the team's best third down conversion percentage since Nov. 3, 2013 (70.6 percent vs. San Diego).

• In Week 16 at Philadelphia, the Redskins and Eagles combined for 38 passing first downs, the most combined passing first downs in a game in Redskins history.

• With 437 yards of offense in Week 17 at Dallas, the Redskins tied a team record by posting a third consecutive game with 400-plus yards of offense, matching three-game streaks in 1949, 1981-82, 1983 and 2013.

• The Redskins tied a team record in Dallas in Week 17 with 21 first-quarter points, set previously four times including most recently on Sept. 19, 1999 vs. the New York Giants.

• In Weeks 15-17, the Redskins scored 34 or more points in three consecutive games for the first time since doing so in a four-game span in Weeks 5-8 of the 1983 season.

• With zero turnovers in Weeks 16-17, the Redskins posted consecutive zero-turnover games for the first time since a three-game streak in Weeks 8-11 of the 2012 season.

• In Week 17, the Redskins improved their record in regular season finales against Dallas to 5-3 since the adoption of the 16-game schedule in 1978.

• With the Week 17 win at Dallas, the Redskins posted victories in North Texas in consecutive seasons for the first time since winning three straight road contests against Dallas from 1987-89.

• The Week 17 victory was the Redskins' first January regular season win since Week 17 of the 2005 season (Jan. 1, 2006 at Philadelphia), snapping a three-game losing streak in regular season games played in January.
