Gibbs Post-Game: Redskins-Cowboys

Opening Statement:

"For us, I really feel sorry for our players. If there's ever been a group of guys who fight hard every single week, this is it. They played extremely hard today. You could look at about 50 plays in a game like this where you could have won it. The important thing for us is, it was all of us together and there was no one play that cost us a ballgame. These are hard-fought lessons for us. I'm proud of our football team and the way they fight. They've laid it on the line all year long."

On how tough the loss was for the team:

"They don't come any tougher than this. It's one of those things where you give them credit. They made a great play there at the end. But I'm proud of our team and the way it fights. You're not going to take that away from them. And the other thing is, we win together and we lose together. That's what we're all about."

On Dallas's defense:

"It's tough to make yards on them. I think they have a heck of a defense. It was hard for the offense to score a lot of points. We got down in there and had a ball bounce on us in there and it was picked off. Another time, we lost our footing there. But things like us in close football games. It's too bad for our guys. They fought hard."

On the offense:

"Sometimes you can't program it. It's a play here or a play there. I felt like we had an excellent first drive, at times we drove the ball, but good defenses are going to cause you to do that. It was hard to be consistent."

On Patrick Ramsey:

"I don't think it was just Patrick. It was all of us. Offensively, it was tough to play away like this. It was tough with the crowd noise. We tried to make smart plays. We had a couple of real good drives. But it was hard for us today to consistently do some things."

On the defensive scheme in the Cowboys' decisive drive:

"First of all, they were out of time outs. Gregg [Williams, assistant head coach-defense] is the best one to talk to about that. But I certainly wouldn't want to be going after someone and then have someone going scot-free. We tried to play smart there, but we got caught on a sideline pass there. Our defense has been so good all year, I wouldn't second-guess anything they do. It's just one of those things were you have to give them credit--they made the play."

On Clinton Portis's status after his bruised shoulder injury:

"We haven't gotten a report yet, but I'd say that anytime you have Clinton coming out of there, you have to worry because he got hit early in the sternum. He felt like he could play. He continued to play for a while, but it got worse and worse."

On Fred Smoot's injury status:

"We haven't got a report yet."

On the offense taking shots downfield:

"We did take shots. We took a lot of shots. The problem is, the quarterback gets sacked, the ball gets knocked down, or someone gets tripped and there's a fumble. We just aren't able to move the ball down there."
