Gibbs Praises Camp at Redskins Park

Head coach Joe Gibbs said Tuesday that he enjoyed the convenience of holding training camp at Redskins Park this summer. It was the third time in the last five seasons that the Redskins held camp at their year-round facility in Ashburn, Va.

"In general, I kind of liked it here," Gibbs said. "I was curious how I would like it. The only two places I've held camp is in Carlisle (Pa.), and here. From the short amount of time for camp, to go all the way to Carlisle or another site would probably be too much moving around."

The Redskins stayed as a team at the National Conference Center in nearby Leesburg, Va., and bused to Redskins Park for practices and meetings.

During Gibbs' first tenure with the team, the Redskins held training camp at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., each year. In 1994, the team moved camp to Frostburg State College in Frostburg, Md., before deciding to hold it at Redskins Park in 2000.

The Redskins returned to Carlisle for training camp in the 2001 and 2002 seasons, then came back to Redskins Park prior to the 2003 season.
