Redskins Add Boyd, Bodiford to Roster

The Redskins rounded out their roster on Sunday, claiming wide receiver Shaun Bodiford and tight end Cody Boyd off waivers.

The Redskins' roster now stands at 53 players. After Saturday's final cuts, the roster was at 52, leaving the club room to sign an additional player.

Instead, the Redskins signed two players on Sunday, releasing third-year tight end Eric Edwards in the process.

Bodiford, 5-11 and 186 pounds, is a first-year player who spent time in 2007 preseason with the Green Bay Packers.

He recorded two catches for 26 yards, returned two punts for a 6.5-yard average and ran back two kickoffs for a 23.5-yard average.

Bodiford, who played his college ball at Portland State, began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions in 2006. Midseason, he was released and joined the Green Bay Packers.

Overall, Bodiford played in six games last year, three with the Lions and three with the Packers. He returned five kickoffs for 81 yards and six punts for 25 yards.

Boyd, 6-8 and 264 pounds, signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent shortly after the 2007 NFL Draft. He spent all of preseason with the Steelers recording one reception for seven yards.

Boyd received All-Pacific 10 honorable mention as a senior at Washington State.

Bodiford becomes the Redskins' fifth wide receiver on the roster and Boyd is the third tight end.

The Redskins also announced on Sunday that running back Derrick Blaylock and fullback Pete Schmitt have been waived from injured reserve with an injury settlement. Blaylock had a heel injury while Schmitt had a shoulder injury.
