Redskins Kickoff Week 2010

It was a Redskins-Cowboys Week like no other in the history of the rivalry!

All last week, the Redskins hosted a series of daily events leading up to the biggest pre-game tailgate in team history.

FedExField parking lot opened at 12 noon ET on Sunday, with five giant video boards spread throughout the stadium parking lots and Bud Light Pavilion for fans to watch the afternoon NFL games. It all led up to the nationally televised Redskins-Cowboys game on Sunday evening.


"We want this to be a GameDay experience the fans will remember for years," Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder said. "We want fans to arrive early and enjoy a full day at FedExField."

Official Proclamations!

Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson, Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and Loudoun County Chairman Scott K. York held separate press conferences at FedExField, Powell Elementary School in Washington, D.C., and the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Meeting in Leesburg, Va., to announce the official proclamations.

Johnson, Fenty and York each issued a friendly wager on the outcome of the Redskins-Cowboys game with their counterparts in Texas.

Immediately following the press conference with Mayor Fenty, Redskins players Brian Orakpo and H.B. Blades distributed backpacks filled with school supplies that were collected during training camp to the student body at Powell Elementary School. World Vision partnered with the Redskins Charitable Foundation to collect the backpacks.


Official Day-Long 'BEAT DALLAS' Party


Morton's The Steakhouse in Washington, D.C., hosted the Official Day-Long 'BEAT DALLAS' Party, giving fans the opportunity to celebrate the rivalry with team alumni including Dexter Manley.

ESPN 980 broadcast all of their programming from the scene and will gave fans a chance to win party deck passes to the Redskins-Cowboys game.

Also on Wednesday, Redskins fans were invited to join general manager Bruce Allen at a "Return to Glory" party at Union Jack's in Ballston Common Mall in Arlington, Va.


'Honk If You Hate Dallas!"

A great tradition from the past returned with "HONK IF YOU HATE DALLAS!" day.

Redskins celebrities, Hogettes and the girls of Hooters encouraged commuters in the Washington, D.C. metro area to show their team loyalty by honking when they saw signs at major intersections and thoroughfares.

Amtrak at Union Station in Washington, D.C. also participated with a honk as one of its trains departed.

In addition, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the state of Maryland each issued Official Proclamations dedicating the week as "Redskins Kickoff Week."


'Back to Football Friday'


As part of the league-wide celebration of "Back to Football Friday," the Redskins encouraged all fans to wear burgundy and gold all day to show their pride for their team.

Friday was the first day that schools can submit their entries via for a chance to win a $10,000 award for the best decorated and most spirited Redskins classroom.

On Friday morning, the Redskins Cheerleaders appeared live on NBC'S "Today Show" in New York City, where they passed out "Beat Dallas" tee-shirts to the crowd.

In the afternoon, Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder visited Heritage High School in Loudoun County to attend the school's football pep rally.


Redskins Pep Rally And Send-Off Party

All Redskins fans were invited to Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va., for a pep rally to help send the players off following the morning practice!

The Redskins Marching Band and Redskins Cheerleaders performed, and free tickets were awarded for the "Best Dressed" Redskins fan and the "Best Decorated" vehicle.

There was also a special ceremony to award service rings to members of the Marching Band with 20-60 years of service.

All day on Saturday, Redskins fans followed Redskins blogger Matt Terl on Twitter (@RedskinsBlog) as he drove around the Washington, D.C. region and tweeted where fans could meet him for free tickets to the game.


On Saturday night, Redskins alumni and team officials were on hand in the parking lots at FedExField to help debut the flatbed-mounted giant screens to allow fans to watch the early NFL games while they tailgated for the Redskins-Cowboys matchup.



For the first time ever, the parking lots at FedExField opened at 12 noon for a prime time game.

Five giant video boards were spread throughout the stadium's parking lots and the Bud Light Pavilion for tailgating fans to watch the afternoon NFL games.

In addition to the video boards, the Redskins Marching Band and the Redskins cheerleaders performed in the tailgate areas in the afternoon. Redskins alumni including Dexter Manley were on hand to meet and greet fans.

The FedExField Bud Light Pavilion opened early. At the same time, the team opened -- for the very first time -- the lower bowl in the east end of the stadium for fans who wanted to come in and watch late afternoon games on the stadium's new 100-foot HD video boards.

Also, the first 50,000 fans entering the stadium wearing Redskins gear received a FREE Redskins car flag (retail value $12.95).
