The Washington Redskins hit the road for the first time this season, squaring off with the New York Giants in Week 3 action at MetLife Stadium. Check out updates from the game.

Fourth Quarter: Redskins 29, Giants 27

The fourth quarter began with Dustin Hopkins making his fourth field goal of the day, tying a career-best in terms of conversions in one game and to put the Redskins up by two.

The next drive was intense and physical, looking to be another score for the Giants. But cornerback Quinton Dunbar made a truly incredible one-handed catch in the end zone to intercept Eli Manning for the second time in as many games, giving the Redskins the ball back with 13:35 left in the fourth quarter.

Washington's next drive would last just six plays, but the Giants would block Tress Way's punt attempt. However, offsetting penalties would give the Redskins another try at the punt, one that was booted down to the New York 30-yard line.

New York would take back the lead with 7:53 left in the game after driving down to the 12-yard line, but not coverting on a key third down. On the drive, Manning threw the ball seven times as the Giants did not record a single rush attempt.

The Redskins began the next drive at their own 25-yard line, forced back by a snap infraction on Spencer Long before Olivier Vernon was called for roughing the passer to give the Redskins a new set of downs at the 36-yard line. Washington would ride Matt Jones on first and second down before he ran for 10 yards on 3rd-and-1. On first down, Cousins connected with DeSean Jackson for a nine-yard gain before Jones collected 12 yards on the next play.

After five and two yards gains from Jones on the first two plays following the Redskins' second timeout (and the two-minute warning) Jones was stuffed for a two-yard loss on 3rd-and-3, setting up Dustin Hopkins' fifth field goal of the afternoon.

Washington leads 29-27 with 1:51 left.

Manning would complete a six-yard pass to start New York's final drive, but the Giants were called for offensive pass interference on their second play, setting them back int a 2nd-and-14 situation. Manning would fail to complete a pass to Shane Vereen on third down before connecting with Victor Cruz on third down to move the chains. New York called a timeout with 1:09 left.

Rookie Su'a Cravens would record a diving interception on the next play, sealing a victory for the Redskins.

Third Quarter: Redskins 23, Giants 24

The third frame began with Washington having posession of the ball, as Kirk Cousins completed a three-yard pass to a returning DeSean Jackson. The Redskins would gain another two yards by Matt Jones before being forced to punt on fourth down. One injury note: Shawn Lauvao (ankle) was ruled out for the second half while Kory Lichtenstieger went down on the first play of the second half. Trent Williams slid to left guard with Spencer Long at center and Ty Nsekhe at left tackle.

The defense, though, would force the Giants into a three-and-out as well, as they held the run game to six yards on first and second down before Sterling Shepard dropped the ball on third down.

Washington went back to work at the 50-yard line, but after a holding call negated a 24-yard gain on first down, the Redskins struck on 3rd-and-15 from their own 45-yard line, as Cousins found Jamison Crowder on a screen pass to set up a 55-yard touchdown. The play was set up by a well placed block by Williams.

Dustin Hopkins convered the extra point attempt to put the Redskins up by two with 9:45 left in the third quarter.

New York got into Washington territory on their next offensive play, though, as Eli Manning found Victor Cruz, who raced up-field for a 37-yard gain. It was the first play of a drive that would end with a Josh Brown 29-yard field goal conversion to put New York back up by one.

Washington moved the ball on their next drive, one highlighted by an acrobatic one-handed catch by Jordan Reed, a 13-yard gain that would put the Redskins at midfield. Just as it looked like the drive would be over, the Redskins went into their bag of tricks as Tress Way dropped back to throw the ball, completing it to gunner Quinton Dunbar for a 31-yard gain.

The Redskins would convert on 3rd-and-4 from the 15-yard line but Cousins was sacked on 3rd-and-goal, the last play of the quarter.

Second Quarter: Redskins 16, Giants 21

The first play of the quarter was Eli-Manning to Odell Beckham Jr. for 26 yards. Will Blackmon was in at safety instead of David Bruton Jr. Chris Baker, though, made sure there wasn't a repeat on the next play, sacking Manning for a loss of seven and knocking the ball free, although it would be recovered by New York.

The Redskins would hold off the Giants on third down, before Jamison Crowder weaved in and out of New York's return unit for a 56-yard runback. It was the longest punt return by the Redskins in 54 games dating back to the 2012 season.

Matt Jones would carry the ball for one yard before Chris Thompson gained three yards to set up a 3rd-and-6, a nine-yard completion to Pierre Garçon to move the chains.

The offensive line would be called for two crippling penalties shortly after, however, setting the Redskins back into long distance situations before Dustin Hopkins yet again converted on a field goal attempt, a 45 yarder.

After New York called on Orelans Darkwa gained four yards on first down, the Giants were called for holding on second down before setting up a 15-yard gainer by Victor Cruz on 3rd-and-13.

The Redskins would get the Giants into another third-down situation, but Su'a Cravens was called for illegal contact, giving New York a new set of downs. Washington would soon be flagged for roughing the passer, putting the Giants at the 17-yard line.

Darkwa would finish off the drive with a 15-yard gain followed by a two-yard touchdown run to bump New York's lead to 12.

The Redskins would take just two plays to strike, though, as Cousins found Jackson for gains of 31 and 44 yards, the second of which was a touchdown.

New York tried to respond, driving as deep as to the Washington 30-yard line, but safety Will Blackmon -- in for an injured DeAngelo Hall -- and rookie Su'a Cravens combined to force a fumble that would be recovered by cornerback Greg Toler.

Washington's offense took the field with 70 seconds left in the quarter at their own 34-yard line. Cousins tried to find Crowder for another deep gain, but New York was called for pass interference, a 23-yard penalty.

On 3rd-and-10 from the 28-yard line, Cousins took advantage of a clean pocket to find Reed for a 24-yard gain, setting up goal-to-go situations, but the Redskins did not find the scoreboard, as Cousins was sacked on third down, the last play of the half.

First Quarter: Redskins 6, Giants 14

The Redskins began the afternoon at MetLife Stadium on defense, after deferring to receive until the second half.

All eyes were on Redskins cornerback Josh Norman and Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., as Norman followed Beckham Jr. on both sides of the field. Greg Toler also started the game opposite rookie Sterling Shephard and with Bashaud Breeland in the slot.

Washington got off to a good start defensively, forcing New York into a three and out as Eli Manning completed 1-of-2 passes for just two yards. But the Giants would immediately get the ball back, as it hit cornerback Quinton Dunbar as he was trying to avoid touching it.

Starting at the Redskins' 28-yard line, Shane Vereen's first carry of the drive went for 15 yards before Manning connected with Shephard on a 12-yard gain to get New York down to the 1-yard line. Vereen would punch it in after for a 1-yard touchdown.

The Redskins would start their first offensive drive of the game at the 40-yard line after Josh Brown's ensuing kickoff knuckleballed out of bounds.

Washington ran the ball on the first two plays of the drive – one each for Matt Jones and Chris Thompson – before Kirk Cousins' first pass attempt went for 11 yards to Pierre Garçon.

But the drive would stall out at the 31-yard line before Dustin Hopkins converted on a 49-yard field goal attempt.

New York slowly moved the ball up-field on their next drive, gaining 11 yards on their first three plays before Vereen churned up 14 yards on his first carry of the drive.

Bobby Rainey would gain 24 yards on a screen pass before Norman had a diving pass defense. The Giants would quickly respond, though, with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Shephard.

Washington called on Jones on first down on the next drive -- gaining six -- before Cousins found Jordan Reed for 14 yards on third down. Cousins would go back to the air on the next play, hitting Garçon for the second time on the afternoon for a gain of 20 yards.

The Redskins continued to move through the ball on their second third-down attempt of the drive, as Cousins dropped back and found Jamison Crowder for an 8-yard gain on 3rd-and-4. But the Redskins' drive would stall short of the end zone yet again, settling for three more points from Hopkins.

New York would run two more plays before the end of the quarter.
