Stats Recap: Redskins-Falcons

  • The Washington Redskins lost to the Atlanta Falcons, 24-17, in front of an announced crowd of 75,337 people at FedExField on Sunday.
  • The Redskins extended their consecutive home sellout streak to an NFL-high 370, including postseason games. The team has sold out all 152 preseason, regular season and postseason games at FedExField.

Running back Alfred Morris received his fifth NFL start and had a career-high 115 yards on 18 carries. As of the conclusion of Sunday's 1 p.m. games, Morris is first in the NFC and second in the NFL in rushing yards this season (491). * Morris joins Eric Dickerson as the only rookies in NFL history to rush for at least 75 yards in each of their team's first five games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. * Morris rushed for his second consecutive 100-yard rushing game, the second of his career. The Redskins' last seven 100-yard rushers have been rookies (three by Roy Helu, Jr. in 2011, two by Evan Royster in 2011, two by Morris in 2012). * Morris joins Larry Brown (1972), John Riggins (1983), George Rogers (1986), Earnest Byner (1991) and Terry Allen (1996) as the only backs in team history since the merger to open a season with at least 75 yards in the first five games of a season. * Morris registered a career-long reception, gaining 20 yards on a second-quarter catch. * Morris finished the first half with 86 yards on 10 carries. The 86 first-half yards represent the most yards he has gained in a half this season, topping the 75 first-half yards he had at Tampa Bay last week. * The 86 first-half rushing yards by Morris are the most by a Redskin since Ryan Torain rushed for 158 yards in the first half vs. Tampa Bay on Dec. 12, 2010. * The Redskins rushed for 129 yards. Dating back to last season, the Redskins have rushed for 125 or more yards in seven consecutive games for the first time since Weeks 2-8 of the 2008 season. * Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan scored the second touchdown of his career, intercepting a Matt Ryan pass and returning it 28 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. It was his first score since his pick-six in his NFL debut vs. the New York Giants on Sept. 11, 2011. * Kerrigan's touchdown is the Redskins' third defensive touchdown of the season, marking the first time the Redskins have scored at least three defensive touchdowns in a season since 1999 (four). * Kerrigan is the first Redskin since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to have an interception return for touchdown in each of his first two NFL seasons. * The Redskins now have an interception in six consecutive games dating back to last season. This marks the first time the Redskins have had interceptions in six consecutive games since Weeks 9-14 of the 2009 season. * Linebacker Perry Riley registered his third career fumble recovery and his first of the season, falling on a fumbled snap by Atlanta. * Quarterback Robert Griffin III rushed once for seven yards, giving him 241 rushing yards on the season, breaking Sammy Baugh's team record for rushing yards by a rookie quarterback (240 in 1937). * Quarterback Kirk Cousins made his NFL debut in the third quarter. * Cousins' first career pass attempt was a four-yard completion to wide receiver Joshua Morgan. * In the fourth quarter, Cousins threw the first touchdown pass of his career, finding Santana Moss for a 77-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. * The touchdown reception came on the 650th reception of Moss' career. It was Moss' 58th career receiving touchdown, his 39th as a Redskin and his second of the season. * The 77-yard reception was the second-longest of Moss' career, behind only a 78-yard touchdown reception at Kansas City on Oct. 15, 2005. * Moss added another catch in the fourth quarter, giving him 500 receptions as a member of the Washington Redskins. Moss is the fourth player in franchise history to reach 500 receptions with the team (Art Monk, Charley Taylor and Gary Clark). * Moss finished with 80 yards. It was his 37th career 80-yard receiving game, 14th most among active players. * Nose tackle Barry Cofield played in his 100th career regular season game. Cofield registered his first sack of the season in the fourth quarter, giving him 14.5 for his career. * Running back Ryan Grant saw his first action as a member of the Redskins, gaining five yards on his first carry with the team in the second quarter. * Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson registered the first rushing attempt of his career, gaining two yards on an end around in the first quarter. * The Redskins are now 14-7-1 against Atlanta in the regular season. * Washington is 9-3 in regular season home games against Atlanta.
