General manager Bruce Allen said it loud and clear.
The Redskins are open to trading the fourth overall pick in this Thursday's NFL Draft.
That doesn't mean a trade is a sure thing, though.
"History will tell you there is not much trading in the top four picks," Allen said during a Monday pre-draft briefing at Redskins Park. "We've looked at it a number of different ways. But in recent years, there's not a lot of movement up there.
"We are listening. Phones will be open. We have a listed phone number if someone wants to make a trade, but it's hard to project what is going to happen."
Allen said he would be open to trading picks in next year's draft if the right deal came along.
"We're open to hearing trades that involve picks in 2017 if somebody wants to talk about it," Allen said.
The Redskins have just four picks in the draft, including the fourth overall selection.
After the first round, the Redskins don't select until the fourth round. They traded their second-round pick for Donovan McNabb and their third-rounder was used on Jeremy Jarmon in the NFL Supplemental Draft last year.
Team officials could add to their draft bounty by trading down and acquiring more picks.
Allen said he hoped the team could pick up at least a dozen new players through draft weekend, including undrafted rookie free agents.
This year's draft is the first to start on Thursday night in prime time.
The first round is on Thursday night starting at 7:30 p.m. ET and the second and third rounds are Friday evening. Rounds 4-7 are on Saturday.
This format could lead to more trades, particularly in the second round. With approximately 18 hours between the end of the first round and the start of the second round, teams have time to restack their draft boards and target certain players via trades.
Allen is eager to see how it plays out.
"I've heard the philosophy that there could be more trades in the second round," he said. "I think the last two years there have been quite a few trades in the second round. When you talk about restacking the board on Day 1 or Day 2, most teams already do that.
"It'll be fun. The dynamics of the evening draft will be interesting and hopefully it works for the fans."
