Tight end Chris Cooley has been placed on injured reserve, the Redskins announced on Tuesday.

Cooley has been slowed by a fractured finger in his hand and a lingering knee injury.

He had surgery on his hand two weeks ago. He suffered the injury in the Redskins' Week 6 game vs. Philadelphia.

On Monday this week, Cooley was scheduled to have an MRI on the knee and then consult with Dr. James Andrews, a Redskins team consultant.

It's the second time in three years that Cooley's season has come to an end early. In 2009, he suffered a fractured foot that required surgery.

Cooley's sore knee first became an issue during training camp. He missed most of training camp and all four preseason games.

He was able to play in the Redskins' season opener, though.

Cooley started the first five games and posted eight catches for 65 yards.
