Former Redskins D-Lineman Brooks Passes Away

Former Redskins defensive tackle Perry Brooks, a member of the Super Bowl XVII championship team in 1982, passed away on March 1 in Woodbridge, Va.

Brooks was 55.

Brooks played for the Redskins from 1978-84, appearing in 92 games mostly as a reserve.

He tallied nine sacks from 1982-84, when sacks became an official statistic. He logged 5.5 sacks in his final season with the Redskins.

Brooks, also a part of the Redskins' Super Bowl XVIII team in 1983, logged four fumble recoveries in his career.

Brooks was born in Bogalusa, La., and he went on to play college football at Southern University. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

Brooks is the father of current San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks.
