Joe Gibbs Media Session

On Shawn Springs (CB, #24):

"I feel like Shawn is making great progress [in his rehab]. As far as I can tell, he looks real good running. We'll just have to see. Right now, the medical team thinks he shouldn't practice."

On Clinton Portis (RB, #26):

"We'll see how he goes. It'll be day to day. He didn't take team work, he took limited work. I think our medial team felt [practicing on Wednesday] would be too quick for him to come back [from Monday's game]."

On Curry Bruns (S, #41):

"Curry is a guy who has been around us and been around [safeties coach] Steve Jackson. He understands our scheme. He was one of those guys we hated to let go. He's somebody we're not afraid of playing. He can play special teams, too."

On if there is any carry-over affect that carries into this season:

"It will make it tough on us because of what happened last year. That is just part of the past. It is a tough place to go. It is not a place that you want to go and play. They have a tremendous crowd, great fans, and a real good football team that is well coached. Those are not the kind of things that you want to go up against. That is what you have to do up here."

On T.J. Duckett (RB, #36):

"We were hoping to get him to play some on Monday night. The way it worked out for us we did not have that many plays on offense. We never had a chance to get him in there. We had him lined up to play on goal line. Our hope is to get him to play more. We watch him out at practice and he is somebody that could really help our football team. We will just have to play it out and see how it goes Sunday night. Certainly I would like to see him play because I would like to give him an opportunity to help us."

On the defensive line:

"We have great leadership on our defensive line. We have a group of guys there that have a lot of pride. That group is very instrumental part of what we do here. They are very much the leadership group. A few of them have been around a while and know what it takes. Obviously we know we are up against it and I am sure we are big underdogs in this one. We will have to play our guts out. That group over there is a group that we count on leading the football team. They set the tempo a lot of times for us."
