News & Notes: Hall Back On Kickoffs

John Hall has resumed kicking off for the Redskins--and he will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, head coach Joe Gibbs said on Monday.

Entering the season, Gibbs intended to have punter Derrick Frost serve on kickoffs. That would save Hall, who is coming off of two injury-plagued seasons, to focus on field goals.

During the course of four preseason games and one regular season game, Frost lacked consistency on his kickoffs. So Gibbs turned to Hall for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

"John said to me, 'Hey, I feel great and I know I can kick off.'" Gibbs said. "His direction and the fact that he has done it a bunch really helps us.

"Starting off the year, I was preferring to keep him out of it because he had been straining his legs kicking off and I didn't want to go through injuries with him again. But he had surgery last offseason and he convinced us all that he's healthy."

Gibbs said he was satisfied with Hall's direction and hang time on kickoffs during Sunday's game.

Meantime, Hall rebounded from his missed field goal attempt in the season opener to connect on a 39-yard field goal in the Dallas game.

Punter Derrick Frost was one of the question marks heading into the regular season. In the early going, his answers have been positive.

On Sunday night in Dallas, Frost punted eight times for a 51.6 gross yard average and a 39.8 yard net average, which included a best effort 59-yard long boot as well as one punt downed inside the 20.

On the season, Frost's gross punting average of 48.3 is second best in NFC, while his 38.9 yard net average is fifth best in the conference.

Santana Moss caught four passes for 69 yards against Dallas and has now gone over the 4,000 yard mark in receiving yards in his career. He is also now just eight receptions away from 250 in his career.

It was the second consecutive week that Moss has totaled 69 yards receiving.
