Redskins Acquire RB T.J. Duckett

The Redskins announced today on Aug. 23 that the team has acquired running back T.J. Duckett from the Atlanta Falcons in a trade that involves three teams. The Redskins will provide draft compensation to the Denver Broncos, while the Broncos sent wide receiver Ashley Lelie to the Falcons. Duckett comes to Washington.

Duckett, 6-0 and 254 pounds, spent the past four seasons in Atlanta after the Falcons selected him in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He is a bruising, tough runner that has rushed for 31 touchdowns in his four seasons with 552 carries for 2,175 yards. He has played in 54 games with 14 starts and has 29 receptions for 233 yards.

In 2005, Duckett appeared in 14 games and recorded 280 rushing yards on 121 carries with a team-high eight touchdowns. He helped the team lead the NFL in rushing for the second straight season (159.1 yards per game). In 2004, he also had eight scores with 509 rushing yards.

Duckett has had an excellent preseason thus far, rushing for 96 yards on 15 carries in the Falcons' two games.

Duckett had a career-high 11 rushing touchdowns in 2003 and a career-high in yards with 779. During his rookie season in 2002, he had 507 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

Duckett finished his college career at Michigan State with 621 carries for 3,379 yards (5.4 avg.) and 29 touchdowns.
