Redskins Add WR Willis to Roster

The Redskins have signed free agent wide receiver Jason Willis, the team announced on Friday. To make room for Willis on the roster, the Redskins released rookie wide receiver Terry Mitchell.

Willis, a two-year NFL veteran, is expected to be on hand for the team's three-day mini-camp on June 15-17. He will likely compete for a roster spot as the fifth wide receiver or a job on the Redskins' practice squad.

Willis, 6-1 and 196 pounds, spent last year's training camp with the Miami Dolphins, but was released after preseason.

He spent nine weeks on the Dolphins' practice squad in 2005.

Willis entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Oregon in 2003. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve with an ankle injury, but returned in the spring of 2004 to play for Frankfurt in NFL Europe.

He spent most of the 2004 NFL season on the Seahawks practice squad, but was activated late in the season and saw action in the team's season finale.

He spent 2005 training camp in Seattle, but was released during preseason.

Willis was a walk-on wide receiver at Oregon who went on to catch 93 passes for 1,117 yards and two touchdowns in 47 career games.
