The Washington Redskins confirmed that team officials met with Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell to interview for the head coach vacancy.
A 36-year veteran of the coaching ranks, Caldwell has built his reputation mentoring elite caliber quarterbacks, including ten seasons with Peyton Manning in Indianapolis and a Super Bowl run with Joe Flacco and the Ravens.
Under his tutelage in Indianapolis, Manning led the NFL in completions (2,482), completion percentage (66.5), passing yards (29,210), passing touchdowns (222) and passer rating (100.5).
The Colts went to the playoffs in nine-straight seasons with Caldwell on the coaching staff, winning the franchise's first Indianapolis Super Bowl in 2006.
Following the 2008 season, Caldwell took over for the retiring Tony Dungy, and led his Colts squad to a 14-0 start in 2009, an NFL record for a first-time head coach.
Caldwell's Colts would lose the final two games of the regular season but run all the way to the Super Bowl, where they lost to Drew Brees and the Saints.
After a 10-6 2010 season led to an early exit from the playoffs, the wheels fell off in 2011. Manning missed the season, leading to a 2-14 record and Caldwell's dismissal as head coach.
His regular season head coaching record is 26-22.
Before the 2012 season, Caldwell joined the Ravens coaching staff as quarterbacks coach, earning a promotion to offensive coordinator after Cam Cameron was fired following a Week 14 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins.
Under Caldwell, the Ravens rallied to the Super Bowl, averaging north of 400 yards per game, 27.3 points per game, with Flacco completing 58 percent of his passes for 1,737 yards, 15 touchdowns and an interception.
In the playoffs last year, his offense averaged 410.3 yards per contest, 31 points per game and a 71.4 red zone touchdown scoring percentage.
Although both he and Redskins general manager Bruce Allen spent time in Tampa Bay, they did not overlap, with Caldwell coaching quarterbacks in 2001 before Allen arrived in 2004.
Caldwell is the second confirmed candidate to interview for the Washington Redskins head coaching job, joining Cowboys special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia who interviewed Friday.
