Redskins Open '08 On Thursday Night Football

The NFL announced today that the Washington Redskins will open the 2008 NFL regular season against the Super Bowl champion New York Giants. The game will be televised to a national audience on Thursday, September 4 at 7 p.m. ET at Giants Stadium on NBC.

It will be the first NFL game of the regular season and the head coaching debut for new Redskins coach Jim Zorn.

In addition, it will also be 151st meeting between the two franchises dating back to1932, with the Redskins defeating the Giants in their last meeting 22-10 on December 16, 2007 at Giants Stadium.

The Redskins are eager to continue their recent success on NFL Kickoff Weekend as the team won five of the last six season openers. Overall, the Redskins are 37-35-1 all-time in season opening games.

The Redskins last nationally televised season opener was against the New York Jets in 2003 at FedExField.
