Redskins Sign DB Battle, S Edwards

The Redskins announced on Aug. 16 that the team has signed cornerback Julian Battle and safety Antuan Edwards.

The team also announced that it has waived offensive lineman Jonta Woodard and defensive back Chris Hawkins.

Battle, 6-2 and 205 pounds, is a three-year NFL veteran. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round (92nd overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft.

During his career, Battle has appeared in 26 games with one start and amassed 14 tackles (13 solo) and three pass deflections. In 2005, he ruptured his Achilles tendon and spent the year on injured reserve.

Battle played his college ball at the University of Tennessee.

Edwards, 6-1 and 210 pounds, is a seven-year NFL veteran who has appeared in 72 games with 32 starts during his career and has amassed 225 tackles (172 solo), seven interceptions and three sacks.

Edwards spent 2005 with the Atlanta Falcons where he totaled 14 tackles (nine solo) while appearing in four games with one start. He has also spent time on the rosters of St. Louis Miami, and Green Bay during his time in the League.

Edwards played college ball at Clemson.
