Redskins Sign DB Justin Hamilton to Roster

The Washington Redskins announced May 30 that they have signed free agent safety Justin Hamilton. In addition, the team released defensive back Stephen Tate.

Hamilton (6-3, 222), played one year with the Cleveland Browns after being selected in the seventh round (222nd Overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. He tallied 15 tackles (13 solo) during his rookie campaign.

Hamilton was cut from the Browns on Sept. 1, 2007, and did not play during the 2007 season.

Hamilton played four seasons at Virginia Tech from 2002-05, redshirting his freshman year in 2001. He split time between running back and wide receiver, before moving to safety permanently during his senior season. In 2005, he posted 35 tackles and three interceptions for a total of 60 yards.

Hamilton grew up in Clintwood, VA, and attended Clintwood High School. He will wear jersey No. 23.

Tate originally signed with the Redskins on May 19, 2008.
