The Washington Redskins announced May 15 that they have signed eight players to the active roster: DB Byron Westbrook, DE Alex Buzbee, TE Brian Bell, LB Kevin Jones, FB Pete Schmitt, WR Carl Berman, DB Brandon Register and G Cornelius Rogers.

All eight players signed participated in the team's rookie mini-camp.

Westbrook (5-10, 194) is a native of the Washington, D.C., area and played his high school football at DeMatha, before attending Division III Salisbury University in Maryland where he totaled 18 career interceptions as well as handled punt and kickoff return responsibilities.

Buzbee (6-3, 246) played his college ball locally at Georgetown University, where he earned All-Patriot League honors for the third-straight season in 2006, taking a spot on the first team after two straight seasons in which he earned second-team honors.

Last year, Buzbee finished tied for second on the team with a career-high 75 tackles, as well as a Patriot League leading 13 tackles for loss and second-best conference total of 5.5 sacks. His 27.5 career sacks are third all-time in Georgetown history.

Jones (6-1, 230) set nearly every major tackling record at Saint Augustine's College since the school reinstated its football program in 2002. He was named CIAA defensive player of the year and made the All-CIAA first team in 2006 after totaling 120 tackles, the highest total during the regular season in NCAA Division II. He was the leader of a defensive unit ranked No. 2 nationally in total defense.

Schmitt (6-1, 248) played his college football at Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he pulled in 47 passes for 487 yards and nine touchdowns during his senior campaign and earned Second Team All-America by D3football.com and Football Gazette All-America Third Team.

Berman (5-9, 166) attended Indiana State where he caught 136 passes for 1,666 yards and 11 touchdowns during his collegiate career. Last season, he pulled in a career-high 59 passes for 783 yards and five touchdowns. He also returned kickoffs for the Sycamores.

Rogers (6-2, 315) played his college football at UAB where he was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Blazers.

Register (5-10, 195) also played at UAB and played in 10 games with seven starts his senior season, recording 31 total tackles, including two tackles for loss and one sack. He also recovered a fumble. For his career he played in 42 games with 19 starts.
