Redskins Sign Evans, Wright From NFL Europe

The Redskins have signed a pair of defensive linemen in Demetric Evans, a two-year NFL veteran, and Darrell Wright, a first-year player. Both Evans and Wright played in NFL Europe this spring.

Evans earned a spot with the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe. He played defensive end and recorded 24 tackles (15 solo) and 2.5 sacks on the season.

The 6-3, 300-pounder spent the 2003 training camp with the Dallas Cowboys but was released on Sept. 1. In 2002, he played four games at defensive end for the Cowboys and registered seven tackles and two quarterback pressures.

Evans played in all 16 games of the 2001 season after making the team as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Georgia. He finished the season with 35 tackles, five quarterback pressures and a forced fumble.

Wright earned a spot with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe. He played defensive end and recorded 20 tackles (16 solo), three sacks and one forced fumble.

The 6-4, 285-pounder signed with the Dallas Cowboys in April 2003 as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon. He reached an injury settlement with the team in August after breaking a bone in his hand during training camp.

At Oregon, Wright started 16 of 24 games in his junior and senior seasons, logging 32 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks and an interception.
