Redskins Sign WR Antwaan Randle El

The Washington Redskins announced March 12 they have signed wide receiver Antwaan Randle El. Randle El is a versatile talent who is a threat on both offense and special teams. He is expected to provide another playmaking option for the Redskins' potent offense as well as in the return game on special teams.

Randle El, 5-10 and 192 pounds, is a four-year NFL veteran who spent the beginning of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has played in 64 career games with 23 starts and compiled 159 receptions for 1,985 yards and seven touchdowns. In addition to his offensive production, Randle El totaled 1,594 yards on 167 punt returns and 1,742 yard on 77 kickoff returns.

In 2005, Randle El was an intricate part of the Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Championship season, finishing third in receptions with 35 for 558 yards and one touchdown.

The former college quarterback completed three-for-three passes for 67 yards and one touchdown during the year. He also returned 44 punts for 448 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season.

Randle El had a spectacular Super Bowl performance, catching three passes for 22 yards and took a reverse and threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Hines Ward, solidifying a Steelers championship. He became the first wide receiver in Super Bowl history to throw a touchdown pass.

Randle El was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft from Indiana University. He finished his career as the most productive dual-threat quarterback in NCAA history gaining 11,384 total yards with 86 touchdowns. He is the only Division I player in NCAA history to obtain 6,00 yards passing and 3,000 yards rushing and is the only player to pass and score 40 touchdowns.
