Surprise: Gibbs Arrives at FedExField Early

Head coach Joe Gibbs visited FedExField early on Saturday and addressed an excited crowd minutes before the start of the NFL Draft.

Gibbs departed Redskins Park via helicopter and landed at FedExField at 11:40 a.m. He then returned to Redskins Park, arriving just after 12 noon, in time to prepare for the Redskins' ninth-overall selection.

With Gibbs on the trip were assistant head coaches Joe Bugel and Gregg Williams.

Thousands of fans were in attendance for Gibbs' arrival at FedExField, with many more fans expected throughout the day.

"We're going to try to do something really good for you," Gibbs said to the crowd, referring the team's plans for this weekend's draft.

Gibbs took a few questions from fans on a variety of team matters. He praised the team's overall dedication to the voluntary off-season workouts.

"Sixty-one out of 64 players are working out at Redskins Park voluntarily," Gibbs said. "I don't know anyone else in the league that has more players there than what we have there, so we're excited about that."

Gibbs' arrival kicked off the Draft Day Party that will continue at FedExField until 6 p.m.
