Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 6/11

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.

--Redskins LB Ryan Kerrigan may have had a Pro Bowl season last year, but is adament about improving on last year's success with the return of his partner in crime during his third NFL season.

--Advice on which regular season game to attend at FedExField? Does Roy Helu Jr. have any chance of winning the starting running back job? These answers and more in a reporter's mailbag this week.

--Heading into today's first mini-camp practice, here is a good review of the questions and storylines coming out of last week's final OTA session.

--Redskins QB Robert Griffin III has drawn criticism for being all things to all people this offseason, but one veteran broadcaster says it isn't the player's fault. The media needs to "give that man some room."

--The Redskins took a risk signing Giants defensive tackle Barry Cofield to be the anchor of the defense, understanding that he had never played in the 3-4 and was an undersized nose tackle. Three years later, that risk is paying off as Barry Cofield feels perfectly at home at nose tackle.

--Redskins LB Brian Orakpo said he finally feels healthy this offseason, but calls the pectoral injury that plagued him over the last year "a gift and a curse."

--Nevermind coming off of injury, this is a big season for Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo as he enters the final season of his rookie contract. The question that everyone wants to know, is can Brian Orakpo take his game to the next level?

--You never know what will come out during Reddit "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) sessions with celebrities, but outspoken alumni Fred Smoot gave his two cents on Joe Gibbs, Jim Zorn and Sean Taylor.

--According to an NFL.com article, the Washington Redskins have an atypical power structure in the front office, with head coach Mike Shanahan making most of the personnel calls on the roster and general manager Bruce Allen acting as the public face and the glue that holds departments together.

--SI.com writer Peter King attended last week's OTA practice and left with "little doubt" that Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will be ready for Week 1 of the 2013 season.
