Wide receiver Santana Moss is sidelined with a fractured hand, but he remains involved in the Redskins' offense.
He is helping to mentor the team's young wide receivers.
Rookies Leonard Hankerson and Niles Paul and second-year player Terrence Austin are making strides and becoming more involved in the offense.
With Moss's injury, they are being asked to step up and help fill the void.
Hankerson, a third-round draft pick last April, earned his first NFL start in last Sunday's game vs. San Francisco.
Moss is an 11-year veteran who understands the intricacies of being an NFL wide receiver. Throughout his time with the Redskins, he has imparted some of that wisdom to young receivers.
"I just give them advice on things that I know might happen and I see it," he said. "They may not know how to react to the situation or they may not know how to handle something at the moment.' I'm going to help them but I don't really try to be in their ear all the time."
He understands that what they learn in practice is not nearly as valuable as experiences learned during games.
"I'm pretty sure they're excited," Moss said. "They're going to be anxious, but we'll be able to tell them to just go out there and do what they do in practice every day."
