Biography
Jesse Madden is entering his first season as Assistant Running Backs Coach after spending his first season as an Offensive Quality Control Coach for the Washington Commanders.
In 2025, Madden worked closely with Run Game Coordinator/Running Backs Coach Anthony Lynn.
Madden, the grandson of Pro Football Hall of Famer John Madden, will enter his first season in the NFL after graduating from the University of Michigan. His grandfather, John, coached with Hall of Fame Coach Joe Gibbs at San Diego State. John also broadcasted the final game at RFK Stadium in 1996.
At Michigan, Madden played quarterback in his freshman season (2021) before switching to defensive back for two seasons (2022-23). In 2021, Madden was in a quarterback room with Vikings first-round pick J.J. McCarthy and was coached by Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh. He was a part of a defensive backfield with Commanders cornerback Mikey Sanristil from 2022-23 and was a member of the number one scoring defense during the 2023 season.
Madden earned scout team player of the year honors (2022), five-time scout team player of the week and two-time academic all-Big 10 honors. He also was a Big 10 distinguished scholar (4.0 GPA or above).
In 2024, he worked as a student assistant for head coach Sherrone Moore and Michigan's offensive staff. He assisted with game plans, scout team and worked with the quarterbacks. While at Michigan, Madden was a member of the teams that earned three-time Big 10 championships, Rose Bowl Championship (2023) and was a member of the 2024 national championship team.
During his time at Michigan, he played with seven first round picks: Aidan Hutchinson (2022, DET), Dax Hill (2022, CIN), Mazi Smith (2023, DAL), J.J. McCarthy (2024, MIN), Mason Graham (2025, CLE), Colston Loveland (2025, CHI) and Kenneth Grant (2025 MIA).
