Susan Schaeffler is the Founding Executive Director of the Commanders Youth Academy, where she leads efforts to create educational, athletic, and leadership development opportunities for young people across the DMV.

Prior to joining the Commanders, Susan founded KIPP DC and served as its Chief Executive Officer for more than 20 years. As an inaugural Fisher Fellow, she launched KIPP DC KEY Academy in 2001 and led the organization's growth into a network of 20 schools and two support programs serving more than 7,500 students.

Before founding KIPP DC, Susan spent nine years as an educator, beginning her career as a Teach For America corps member in Baltimore, Maryland.

Throughout her career, Susan has focused on expanding educational opportunity and helping students succeed in school, college, and beyond. She brings that experience to the Commanders Youth Academy as it works to support the next generation of students, athletes, and leaders throughout the region.
