The NFL released the complete 2010 schedule on Tuesday and the Redskins now know the opponents they will play week-to-week next season.

Some quick highlights of the Redskins' schedule:

• For the third year in a row, the Redskins open the regular season against an NFC East opponent as they take on the Dallas Cowboys at FedExField.

• The Redskins play two home games on Sunday Night Football: Week 1 vs. Dallas and Week 6 vs. Indianapolis.

• The Redskins also play a home game on Monday Night Football in Week 10 vs. Philadelphia.

• Quarterback Donovan McNabb faces off against his former team--the Philadelphia Eagles--for the first time in Week 4 at Lincoln Financial Field.

• The bye arrives midseason, in Week 9.

• Three of the final five games are against NFC East opponents, including a season-ending game against the New York Giants at FedExField.

• The Redskins play three of the four NFC North teams in the month of October, wrapping up with a road game at Detroit on Halloween.

The Redskins' 2010 schedule should be a competitive one, head coach Mike Shanahan said on Tuesday. It includes seven games against teams that made the playoffs a year ago.

"It's a competitive schedule to measure ourselves against some of the top teams in the National Football League," Shanahan said. "We've known who we were playing for some time, but it's nice for our organization and fans to know when the games will take place and where they will be. It is flattering to open the season on national television on Sunday night and to also play three primetime games and five national broadcasts in our first nine games."

The opening week contest between Washington and Dallas on Sunday Night Football will be the Redskins' first opener at FedExField in three seasons. The Redskins and Cowboys have not met each other in Week 1 since 1999.

In Week 2, the Houston Texans will come to town for the first time since their inaugural season of 2002. The game will feature current Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan facing his old club, where he held the same position the last two seasons.

The Redskins will hit the road for the first time in Week 3 when they visit the St. Louis Rams. It is the third consecutive year and the fifth time in six seasons the clubs will meet in the regular season.

Washington will stay on the road in Week 4 when they visit the Philadelphia Eagles. The game will feature the expected return of new Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb to Philadelphia, where he played the last 11 seasons.

In Week 5, the Redskins will host Green Bay. They will be looking to defeat the Packers for the first time since 1988.

Washington will stay home the following week to play the defending AFC Champion Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football, in the third of three straight games against 2009 playoff teams. The Colts have not visited FedExField since 2002 and have lost five straight games at Washington dating back to 1967.

The Redskins will visit Soldier Field for the first time since 2004 on Sunday, Oct. 24, in a homecoming for Shanahan and McNabb, who both hail from the Chicago area.

The following week, Washington will visit another NFC North foe when they take on the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. It's the first time in franchise history the Redskins will visit the Motor City in three consecutive years.

At the midpoint of the schedule, in Week 9, the Redskins will have their bye.

Coming out of the bye, Washington will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. It;s the third time in four years the clubs have played on Monday night.

Starting in Week 11, the NFL implements its flexible scheduling. Currently, all of the Redskins remaining games are slotted for Sunday 1 p.m. ET starts.

In that Week 11 contest, the Redskins will visit the Tennessee Titans for the first time since 2002.

That matchup will be followed by a visit from the defending NFC North Champion Minnesota Vikings.

In the first game of the December stretch run, the Redskins will play the division-rival Giants for the first time. The Dec. 5 date is the latest the two clubs will have played for the first time in a season since 1943.

In Week 14, Washington will play Tampa Bay at FedExField in the seventh regular season meeting between the franchises in eight seasons. The Redskins and Buccaneers also met in one playoff game over that span, in 2005.

Following that matchup, Washington will play consecutive road games at Dallas and at Jacksonville.

The Redskins close the season by hosting the Giants on Jan. 2, 2011.
