The Washington Redskins have selected running back Manuel White, Jr. from UCLA with the 19th selection (120th overall) in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft.
The team had traded down to 120 from 112, in a deal with the Minnesota Vikings. The Redskins acquired a fifth-round pick in the trade.
An outstanding all-around back, White possesses the ability to break tackles and the size and strength to get the tough inside yards.
White, 6-2 and 244 pounds, finished his career with 1,814 yards on 408 carries and 19 touchdowns as well as 518 yards on 52 receptions and three scores.
A fifth-year senior in 2004, White recorded 764 rushing yards on 164 attempts with eight touchdowns. He also totaled 20 receptions for 115 yards and a score.
In 2003, White started all eight games in which he played, and amassed 405 yards on 96 carries and three TDs and 10 catches for 101 yards.
In 2002, he appeared in nine games and finished second on the team in rushing with 386 yards on 85 carries and five scores.
As a redshirt freshman in 2001, White saw action in all 11 games and ranked third on the team in rushing with 290 yards and three touchdowns on 63 attempts.
A product of Valencia High School in Valencia, Calif., White finished his career with 6,746 yards, fourth best in California state history, and scored 84 touchdowns. He ran for 100-yards on 31 occasions and at least 200 in 16 games.
