David Blough is entering his second season as assistant quarterbacks coach. In his first season, Blough worked closely with quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels earned AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, earned Pro Bowl honors and set multiple records his rookie season. Daniels threw for 3,568 yards, 25 passing touchdowns, nine interceptions and had a 69.0% completion percentage. He also added 891 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Daniels' combined 31 touchdowns ranked third all-time for a rookie quarterback in league history and is tied with Kirk Cousins for the third most in a single season in Washington history. He became the seventh rookie quarterback in NFL history with five straight games with at least two touchdown passes.
Daniels finished sixth among all-rookie quarterbacks in league history in passing touchdowns in a single season and first among all rookies in completion percentage (minimum 300 passing attempts). His 891 rushing yards ranks first among all rookie quarterbacks for the most rushing yards by a rookie quarterback in a single season.
Blough joined the Commanders with five years of playing experience, most recently as a member of the Detroit Lions. He spent four seasons with the Lions (2019-21; 2023) and one season with the Arizona Cardinals (2022). Throughout his career, Blough recorded 1,435 passing yards and six touchdowns.
Blough attended Purdue from 2015-18 and earned his master's degree in health and kinesiology after earning his bachelor's in organizational leadership.
A native of Carrollton, Texas, Blough is married to Olympian Melissa Gonzalez, who specializes in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4 x 400-meter relay.
